Eye-Center

Eye Center

The CMC Eye Center was established in 1997 to expertly address eye diseases and help lower the statistics of blindness among Filipinos. The center was founded with the hope of providing a specialty facility capable of delivering outpatient diagnostic and interventional procedures to efficiently manage common eye disorders. It was envisioned as a convenient one-stop ophthalmology center catering to the needs of eye specialists practicing at Capitol Medical Center and patients referred by ophthalmologists from nearby areas.

Since its inception, the Eye Center has emerged as a facility with significant relevance to the eye health community and the doctors it serves. It remains committed to providing comprehensive eye care services to close gaps between demand and service delivery, address an evergrowing patient base, and uphold the trust and confidence of eye doctors in its diagnostic and treatment capabilities.

Did You Know?
In the Philippines, statistics on blindness is staggering. This includes:
  • Approximately a million Filipinos are blind in one or both eyes. The common causes of blindness include cataract, retinal and macular diseases, optic nerve diseases, glaucoma, and trauma.
  • Cataract is responsible for 80% of blindness. Retinal and macular diseases rank a distant second, together causing about 90% cases considered legally blind.
Our Eye Center was led by section chiefs who are accomplished and competent specialists in their own right. They include: Dr. Benjamin Cabrera, Jr., Dr. Gregorio Sison, the late Dr. Francisco Cruz, and Dr. Reynaldo E. Santos. It is currently headed by Dr. Alvin Agustin (Comprehensive Ophthalmologist) and ably supported by its active staff:
As development constitutes a spectrum, potentially gifted children may be evaluated as well.
Some telltale signs of neurodevelopmental conditions include:
  • At birth: Cannot suck or has difficulty swallowing
  • At 3 months: Unable to lift head while lying on stomach
  • At 10 months: Cannot sit independently, has imprecise pincer grasp, or not babbling
  • At 1 year: Cannot pull themselves up to stand or cannot speak single words
Interviewing the child is important to gather information about their feelings, perceptions, and mood. Input from teachers, therapists, and other health care professionals is also taken into account. No matter the professional recommendations, the family is encouraged to be highly involved, as it is vital for the success of the team and its efforts.
