The Department of Pediatrics of Capitol Medical Center proudly celebrates its recent triumphs at Quezon City Medical Society (QCMS) competitions, showcasing both the academic excellence of its residents and the exceptional mentorship provided by its consultants.
Dr. Nicole Ann Marie Huelar garnered First Place in the 10th QCMS Cancer Awareness Program Case Presentation Contest last February 28, 2026 for her case entitled “Beyond Classic Conundrums: A Rare Sellar Teratoma in an Adolescent.” Her presentation demonstrated exceptional clinical reasoning, depth of knowledge, and confidence in managing a rare and complex condition. Her success reflects the rigorous training and close guidance from the department’s consultants, who continuously mentor residents in refining diagnostic skills and delivering evidence-based care.
Meanwhile, Dr. Syme Angelique Avelino-Libiran secured Third Place in the Dr. Milagros R. Encarnacion 28th QCMS Interhospital Research Paper Contest held last February 19, 2026. Her research, “Prevalence and Associated Factors of Anxiety, Depression, and Stress among Pediatric Healthcare Workers of a Tertiary Private Hospital: A Cross-Sectional Study,” underscores the importance of mental health awareness among healthcare providers. Her work exemplifies the department’s strong research culture, nurtured through continuous mentorship, critical appraisal sessions, and unwavering consultant support.
These achievements highlight the Department of Pediatrics’ commitment to developing residents into well-rounded pediatricians who excel in both clinical practice and research. The active involvement of consultants as mentors plays a pivotal role in shaping residents’ competencies, fostering confidence, and inspiring academic curiosity.
